At In Harmony Services, our mission is to empower individuals to experience healing through the animal-human bond, harnessing the benefits of animal assisted programs. We believe in the transformative power of connectedness, which is essential in our equine assisted counseling programs, fostering emotional well-being and personal growth as part of our comprehensive mental health services.

We believe in taking a client-centered approach in all our services, including our animal assisted learning and equine assisted counseling programs. We work collaboratively with our clients to identify their mental health goals and develop a personalized plan. All sessions are conducted with our feet on the ground, no horseback riding takes place during the sessions.

Horses have a unique ability to understand our experiences, connect with us, and respond using nonverbal cues, making them powerful partners in animal therapy and equine assisted counseling. Their large, sensitive, and intuitive nature helps individuals become more aware of their own behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. Interacting with horses can foster trust, build confidence, and enhance communication and social skills. Moreover, the structured yet non-judgmental environment that horses provide offers a safe space for self-reflection, growth, and therapeutic breakthroughs, making it an essential aspect of mental health services.
Equine Assisted Counseling is an experiential therapy that utilizes horses for emotional growth and healing, falling under the broader category of animal therapy. This approach is a collaborative effort between a Mental Health Professional, and an Equine Specialist forming a treatment team that addresses clients' treatment goals through the inclusion of horses. Any issues you might seek support for through traditional talk therapy can also be effectively addressed with Equine Assisted Counseling.
Utilizing the EAGALA model, a Mental Health Professional and an Equine Specialist engage with horses to provide ground-level experiences that foster healing and learning. It's important to note that this is not horseback riding; rather, clients, therapists, and horses engage on equal ground, promoting a unique and effective form of mental health services.

We empower individuals with diverse abilities and backgrounds to experience the wholeness and healing that comes from connectedness to animals through our comprehensive mental health services. We offer individualized sessions that allow participants to learn about and connect with various farm animals, utilizing an animal-assisted experiential learning approach in a judgment-free, peaceful environment. Which supports participants in developing social and life skills such as problem solving, coping, and decision making, thereby promoting self-esteem and self-confidence. We encourage the application of the knowledge and skills gained through animal therapy to make positive choices and/or changes in their daily lives.

At In Harmony Services, we believe that everyone has the potential to lead a fulfilling and meaningful life. Our mental health services, including animal assisted learning programs and equine assisted counseling, are designed to help our clients unlock their potential and achieve their goals.

Trudi Townsend MSW/RSW is a registered social worker with six years of experience in mental health services. Currently, I work at a community-based agency offering psychotherapy. I’m passionate about supporting individuals through life’s challenges, helping them become aware of their inner strengths and building resilience. In my private practice, I provide Equine Assisted Counseling, a powerful and creative approach to healing that incorporates animal therapy. Working with horses offers unique opportunities for insight, emotional growth, and connection, especially for those who find it difficult to engage through words alone. My lifelong love of horses, combined with professional training in social work and equine-facilitated mental health, allows me to integrate this work with deep respect for both the client and the animal. My therapeutic style is person-centered, warm, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I believe in creating a safe, collaborative space where clients feel empowered to explore their stories and strengths. Outside of my professional work, I recharge through time in nature—whether that’s cycling quiet backroads and trails, open-water swimming, or just relaxing by the water! These passions help me stay centered and bring a sense of balance and clarity that I also strive to offer in my work with clients. If you're looking for a supportive, down-to-earth approach to therapy, I’d be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.
